Say Their Name Day

On 25 March each year, Sands invites the community to support our ‘Say Their Name Day’, a national day of recognition, remembrance and connection that helps to reduce the stigma of pregnancy and infant loss by reinforcing the idea that every baby matters and deserves to be celebrated.

The concept for ‘Say Their Name Day’ came about in response to feedback Sands received from bereaved parents as part of a survey undertaken in the lead up to the National Round Table into stillbirth research and education early in 2019. The response to our first ‘Say Their Name Day’ was unprecedented and will continue to grow this day into one of national awareness, that will encourage more people to talk openly about miscarriage, stillbirth and newborn death.

We honored many thousands of babies and their families, celebrating with love, pride, courage, and acceptance by families who’ve experienced the heartache of pregnancy and infant loss. In 2023 we will again say the names of thousands of babies. Name by name we’re helping to break the stigma that prevents families from seeking support, finding healing and most of all, having hope.
